Down to breakfast and one of the most comprehensive offerings I think I have ever seen. You'd be hard pushed to name anything that they didn't have, bearing in mind it is a 4* hotel. I was particularly keen to try honey off the comb, with my croissant!
I was almost ready to give the Waldorf a 10 out of 10 but then we had an issue with the bill, which they could have handled better so maybe just 9.5. I'd recommend the place though, if you ever go to Cattolica.
Our first POI was the town of Tavulia, birthplace of Valentino Rossi and home to his 'Ranch'. To say it was disappointing is no lie. A huge poster above the car park, I was hoping to picture the bike with had gone, the Rossi bar/pizzeria was surrounded by scaffolding being refurbished and that was about it. There was a kiddies play park though paying homage to Vale, which was good.
From Tavulia our next POI was at the 43rd Parallel marker. This was our first time of bringing out our old wild hogs pal Dudley on this trip. He's always with us in spirit wherever we go, in the form of his bandana.
From the 43rd, it was a straight run to our overnight stay in Cepagatti. Straight but not straightforward. Major roads can be very slow going, not just because of traffic volumes but hindered by the ridiculous speed limits, which 50% obey and 50% don't. Add to that the numerous roundabouts and traffic lights and it gets quite frustrating, especially when you are sitting in 30 degree sun. When finally turned off the SS16, to something more rural and twisty, I took off, knowing I would leave Grizzly behind. What I didn't know though, was that his Garmin would somehow take him a different route to the hotel. After a drink stop to wait for him to catch up, I suspected that might be the case (not even Grizzly is THAT slow) and wasn't surprised to see him waiting when I arrived.
I nearly didn't arrive though, as some young lady, for whatever reason almost rear ended me, when we slowed in traffic. I was oblivious until I heard the tyre skids. This is a theme though, drivers right up your arse all the time. If you are doing the speed limit, they are itching to get by. If you are even doing more than the limit, they still want to go faster.
The evening ended with us eating in the hotel restaurant and because of the lack of language on both sides, we somehow ended up with a 4 course dinner! Cheese and prosciutto, spaghetti carbonara, lamb chop with fries, fruit and gelato. Washed down with 7 beers between us, we were full to bursting and wondering what sort of bill we would be getting. It was the largest thus far but very reasonable considering what we had.
Tomorrow we are crossing to the west coast, destination Pompeii. It's set to be another hot day. Grizzly reckons thunder storms and seem to be backed up by local tv weather, so we shall see.
Ciao
