Day 8 - Pompeii

Today was our sightseeing day. We breakfasted on the 4th floor, overlooking the scavi. A great view.

The site opens at 9am and the Amphitheatre entrance is 100 metres across the road. There was a queue but as I'd bought our tickets online, we skipped that and went straight to the ticket  scanner. There was an airport type bag scanner but they weren't interested in my bag, even when the alarm sounded!

At first we were walking blind. No map, no audio guide. Then, I managed to find a website, with a map of the site, and which told us which houses, etc, were open. That came in useful, certainly. After about 4 hours on site, the heat and walking were getting to the old fella and we decided to call it a day. I've been before, so wasn't too bothered, though Grizzly did say I could go off if I wanted to do more.

The site is constantly evolving and even though I've been before things have changed and new things are being discovered/exhibited.

Here's some photos of the day.

When we got back, Grizzly took a nap and I went to check the oil level on Ginny. She's always been a thirsty girl and I always have to carry a bottle or two with me on a long trip like this. She was showing plenty after 1300+ miles but I topped her up anyway. I could do with a pound or two of air in the tyres too but that will have wait till our next fuel stop.

Oh, incidentally,  Ginny clocked 23,000 on Monday.

Once Grizzly woke from his slumbers, we took a stroll up the the church/cathedral. We popped in to have a look. The ceilings are spectacular. There was a service about to start, so I didn't take any photos. We then wandered back to the hotel bar. A couple of beers, then time for dinner. I had a salad.  Grizzly had burger and fries. Not burger as we know it though,  it was just a big thick beef patty. No roll, no lettuce, no tomato,  just beef. Just as well he had the fries!

Tomorrow we are heading for Maratea. Our first task though will be to negotiate our exit from Pompeii and then the Amalfi coast road. Looks like we may need the waterproofs, as there's a 42% chance of rain/thunderstorms forecast and that's not just Grizzly, so it may be true. I hate to think what these road will be like wet!

Ciao
